The SOUNDS Academy Masterclass Experience Recap✨

Professional Musicians. Transformative Access. 

As we reflect on this season of the SOUNDS Academy Masterclass Series, one thing is clear: these experiences have been nothing short of transformative. What began as a vision to bring students into deeper, more immersive musical environments became a powerful journey of growth, confidence, and connection. We are incredibly grateful to every student, family member, teaching artist, guest, and community partner who helped make this series so impactful!

We extend our sincere thanks to Lunar Calendar for helping us launch the series with such intention and creativity! Their approach to blending classical and contemporary music, paired with their commitment to mentorship, created a dynamic and inspiring environment for our students.

We are also deeply thankful to The Phoenix Symphony for hosting an unforgettable Masterclass experience. Our students were provided the opportunity to learn within a professional symphony setting, which was both inspiring and affirming! Students were challenged to rise to the moment, they were offered real-time feedback, encouragement, and insight that will stay with them far beyond a single performance!

Partnerships like this reflect the power of community coming together to invest in the next generation of artists and leaders. As Program Director, Matthew Fox reflected, “What a treat it was to collaborate with Lunar Calendar and The Phoenix Symphony for masterclasses… students had the opportunity to listen, ask questions, and be curious, while also gaining helpful tips such as practice habits, communication, performance etiquette, and how to shine through a variety of music. Our students showcased the character values of creativity, leadership, and teamwork as they worked together to be their very best!”

In the final Masterclass Experience in this series, we had the privilege of hosting a special coaching session with Tito Muñoz, who poured into a smaller group of students with a focus on leadership. This session went beyond music, equipping students with practical tools to lead with confidence and vision. One student shared, “It was amazing and intriguing seeing such a prominent and respected conductor come to our humble classroom… and how we were able to pick up on his teachings and efficiently lead a small group of talented musicians.” Another reflected, “I learned a lot about leadership through galvanizing your teammates… This session encouraged me to direct another play at my school!” These moments are a powerful reminder that the impact of music education extends far beyond the stage.

Across every Masterclass and coaching session, our students demonstrated what it truly means to embody the SOUNDS Academy character values of creativity, perseverance, resilience, teamwork, and leadership! They showed up ready to learn, to be stretched, and to grow. Whether performing, receiving feedback, or stepping into leadership roles, they embraced each opportunity with courage and excellence.
