Mahadevan Iyer

Teaching Artist (Violin)

I am Mahadevan Iyer pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry at ASU. I have been learning violin for over thirteen years, currently with Mr. Dana Pasely of the Phoenix Symphony. I also play the viola. Music is a very big part of my life. I am also trained in low brass – euphonium. I was selected to the Arizona Regional Honor Band/Orchestra in both the violin and the euphonium. As one of the main violinists with the Chandler Fine Arts conservatory of music, I have played in several concerts all over Phoenix, AZ. I was also a member of the band at Mountain Pointe High School.

In addition to having a strong background in Western Classical music, I am also trained in Indian Classical Music (ICM), and I have a Bachelor’s degree in ICM. I am a vocalist in both North and South Indian genres. I also play Indian percussion – Tabla and accompany at classical and semiclassical concerts.

I love teaching and it is an integral part of my life. I teach violin, viola, euphonium, tabla and Indian classical vocal. I am passionate about volunteering and donate my free time to helping many homeless organizations in the Valley. My hobbies include basketball and football and I love playing with my dog
