Dr. Maurice L. Terrell, a Sanford, FL. native, is a professional musician, music educator, and
arts leader with over 25 years of experience shaping musical excellence, educational innovation,
and creative expression across K–12, higher education, and community-based settings. His work
reflects a deep commitment to developing musicianship, cultivating artistic identity, and
fostering meaningful musical experiences that extend beyond the classroom and into the broader
cultural landscape.

Dr. Terrell holds a Doctor of Education in Organizational Leadership and Development, along
with a Master of Arts degree in music education/emphasis on curriculum and instruction, and a
Bachelor of Arts degree in music performance. His unique blend of artistry and scholarship
allows him to approach music education not only as instruction, but as a transformative practice
that builds discipline, creativity, and personal voice.

As Director of Bands at Rancho Solano Preparatory School, Scottsdale, AZ., Dr. Terrell leads
comprehensive instrumental programs for students in grades 4 through 12, including concert
band, jazz ensemble, beginning band, and piano. He designs and implements curriculum in
music theory, class piano, and ensemble performance, while mentoring students to develop both
technical proficiency and artistic confidence. His programs emphasize excellence, collaboration,
and the joy of performance, preparing students for continued musical study and lifelong
engagement with the arts.

Dr. Terrell’s experience in higher education includes serving as Program Director, Department
Chair, and Associate Professor of Music, where he taught courses in music theory, ear training,
jazz studies, music history, and ensemble performance. He has directed symphonic bands, jazz
ensembles, orchestras, and choirs, while also leading recruitment initiatives and shaping
academic programs to meet evolving student and institutional needs.
An accomplished multi-instrumentalist, composer, and performer, Dr. Terrell’s artistry spans
jazz, classical, gospel, and contemporary styles. His professional work includes performance,
recording, composition, and musical direction for theatrical productions and community
ensembles. His background in improvisation and diverse musical traditions informs his teaching,
enabling students to engage music both technically and creatively.

In addition to his academic and performance work, Dr. Terrell has led worship and arts
ministries, directed community-based music programs, and founded nonprofit initiatives
designed to expand access to music education. His leadership is grounded in the belief that music
has the power to connect, inspire, and transform individuals and communities.
Dr. Terrell’s approach to music education centers on developing the whole musician, cultivating
skill, character, creativity, and purpose, while creating spaces where students feel seen,
challenged, and inspired to discover their unique artistic voice.
