Mr. Tobie's visit by Ms. Mintz

On July 15, Tobie Milford came by to talk to us about how he composes music and listen to some of our songs that we wrote in SOUNDS Summer Camp. We learned a lot from him and I was surprised to find out that when he is not writing music, he teaches math and science at a school. He composes music because he likes how you get to listen and play all the different parts. Plus, he loves how it gets all woven together to create a song with many layers. He plays several instruments including the guitar and piano. However his favorite is the violin because he has played it since he was 3 and it has become a part of him. His composing process is using a looper. He writes his music using Sibelius and keeps all of his ideas on a program called Evernote. Tobie doesn’t get paid a lot but he composes for the fun of it. Overall, Tobie was good. His songs were unique and catchy. I liked when he played the violin and showed us the cool effects the most. When he sang, I enjoyed listening to his lower notes more than his higher notes. Tobie Milford is a good composer and I look forward to what he will do in the future.
