Teaching Artist (Violin/Viola)
Tom Ginsberg is an accomplished violinist and violist whose career spans major orchestras, opera
companies, chamber ensembles, and studio recording work across the United States. He currently
performs with the Arizona Opera and the Tucson Symphony Orchestra, bringing decades of experience
in both symphonic and operatic repertoire.
Before relocating to Arizona, Tom spent more than a decade performing with the Baltimore Symphony
Orchestra, Baltimore Opera Orchestra, Annapolis Symphony and Opera, Maryland Symphony
Orchestra, and the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra. His versatility as a performer led to collaborations
with the Smithsonian Jazz Orchestra and extensive work with the Mantovani Orchestra, where he also
served as copyist, librarian, and assistant conductor.
In addition to orchestral performance, Tom is an active chamber musician, performing with the Cold
Coffee String Quartet and The Camus Quartet. He has also contributed to numerous radio, film, and
television recording projects as a studio musician, and has been a private violin instructor for over two
decades.
Tom served as a Gunnery Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Band “The President’s Own,” supporting the
ensemble as a copyist and arranger. He holds a Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance from West
Virginia University and pursued graduate studies at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins
University. His principal teachers include Isidor Saslav, Richard Simon, Donald Portnoy, Herbert
Greenberg, John Blake, and Asher Zlotnik.
